Artist Spotlight - Third Day

On May 4th, Third Day’s 7th album, Wire, hits stores shelves. After two highly successful worship albums, Offerings and Offerings II, this 5-member band hailing from Atlanta, GA returns to the studio, and their southern rock roots, for their latest release. This time around, the band teamed up with producer Paul Ebersold, who has worked with groups such as Sister Hazel, 3 Doors Down, Big Tent Revival and Skillet. Additionally, Boyd Tinsley, violinist from Dave Matthews Band, contributed parts to the track titled “Blind.” And Wire’s final sound was put in the amazing hands and ears of mixer Brendan O’Brien, known for his work with Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, and Lifehouse.

Thankfully, Third Day’s tremendous success hasn’t dampened their desire to play or forced them into a rut musically or lyrically.

“With Offerings, we felt pretty confident that we had our fingers on the pulse of what our fans wanted,” basist Tai Anderson says. “Now it’s a little bit of a mystery, because we’re putting together a fresh sound that’s not Offerings III or Come Together II. However, it’s definitely Third Day. We’re not chasing the prefix-of-the-month, whether it be punk or ska or something else. I think there’s just some additional excitement with it.”

Having been a Third Day fan since their first album, Third Day, I’m greatly anticipating their new project. While Offerings and Offerings II were good, I miss the good ol’ southern rock that they were known for. My pre-ordered copy was shipped last Thursday, so I’ll let you all know how it is. You can bet I’ll wear out the CD in the first day!

Be sure to check out their new website at thirdday.com.

  1. How exciting, a new 3D CD. Robin told me you had a link to my page from yours, thanks! I just found yours through my comments. It looks nice. I wish I had time to do my own thing to make it look this cool. :) So, have you heard the new cd? I have to admit that I enjoy both of the Offerings CD’s but not as much as I enjoy their older stuff like, well, I won’t spell it right, but the C— #5 CD. Thanks for the info!

  2. Thanks for stopping by and for the compliment on the site! Not much here right now, so keep checking back. Got tons of pics to put up!

I’ve heard bits and pieces of the new CD, and it sounds pretty good. Mine didn’t get here today like I thought it would, so I’ll have to wait for the whole thing :-( I hope I get it tomorrow!

You know, on the way home today, I was actually thinking about my fave 3D album. While Come Together and both Offerings were good, I concluded that I liked the older stuff, too. And wouldn’t you know, Conspiracy #5 was my pick as well. It’s funny that #5 has been the “odd man out” as far as 3D’s musical style, and I’ve heard that not many people like it, but I think it rocks! Hmmm, maybe I’ll put a poll up about this…

  3. I don’t like the new Third Day CD. I don’t think it’s lyrics were very powerful. It sounds great, but disappointed in lyrics.

  4. Thanks for visiting my site, Galo Jay. I stopped by yours too. Good luck with the new blog :-)

I pretty much agree with you on the new 3D album

Seems their “new found” popularity has affected their music to some extent. Many of the lyrics feel “wishy-washy” and aren’t as strong and passionate as their other albums. The music is pretty good though, but I expected more from them.
