“In commemoration of the Louisiana Purchase, and Lewis and Clark’s expedition, the President enacted Public Law 108-15 to modify the Jefferson five-cent coin (nickel) in 2003, 2004 and 2005, to reflect images evocative of their historic expedition into the Louisiana Territory. A depiction of Monticello will return to the nickel in 2006. The obverse will continue to bear the likeness of President Jefferson.”

FANTASTIC, another coin everyone is going to want to collect. The mint really needs to talk to the bankers before they start doing this stuff. This is also costing us tax dollars. Leave the money alone!

I like the commerative coins and thanks for letting me know why they were changed. I was a bit unknowning though I have seen the new 2004 nickels around. It says that there are 2003 ones as well. What do those look like? I dont believe that I have seen any of those.

Yeah I was checking out the other day and I dropped a nickle when searching for a quarter and the cashier said, “Yeah everyone’s been getting those new nickles confused with the quarters.” I was like, “New nickles??” So I looked at it. Yeah they are not like other nickles but they’re not like quarters either so I’m not sure how people get them confused. Anyway, thanks for telling us about the new nickles. You were a few days too late for me though!

No I wont go harrass the teller asking for the special nickels or quarters. I like the challenge of finding them on my own. Hmm…so I guess I will have to watch out for the 2003 Nickels granted I dont know what they look like.
