DCI

One of things that I miss most from my high school and college days is band, especially marching band. I can still feel that adrenaline rush as I stepped on the field at competitions. Nothing like it!

DCI, Drum Corps International, is an organization of marching bands, “a nonprofit youth organization serving junior drum and bugle corps around the globe.” DCI corps start competing in early June and end with the World Championships in August.

I got to feed my passion for marching bands last night, as I attended the DCI Louisville event. It was a great time, with some top corps from around the country.

Check out some pictures of the competing corps here.

Here are the corps that competed and their final scores. Personally, I liked the Crossmen’s and Caroline Crown’s shows most. Not a big fan of the Cadets…

[UPDATE: Changed "band" to "corp" in appropriate places. Thanks Lori!]

  1. I’m going with Leslie and her family to see DCI late July..I think. Anyway, did the Cavaliers all give each other a ‘good game’..LOL

  2. Hey! I was there too! My mom and I went to Louisville to see the show because my sister Loni is on staff for Southwind. She marched mellophone after high school for five years till she aged out last year and they asked her to come back this year as part of the brass staff. Needless to say, I’ve gotten to go to quite a few DCI shows over the past few years. As for this one, I was kind of upset that the Cavaliers didn’t win. I loved their 007 show and I was mad because they only lost by .05 to the Cadets! Ug! Anywho, there’s a really big show coming up that’s in Indianapolis at the end of July; it’s the Midwest Championships so there will be tons of corps there. (FYI-they hate being called bands) I talked to a friend of mine yesterday who is on staff for the Marion Glory Cadets who used to march for the Cavaliers and he said the Cavies have been getting second place a lot lately so they are probably getting ready to add the second ending onto their show. He said it should be there by the Indy show. Wow I’m talking a lot. Gotta go!

  3. Lol, thanks for reminding me that they’re not bands, but corps :-) I keep forgetting…

Yeah, I wished the Cavs would have won over the Cadets too. Anyone but the Cadets…

I thought Southwind did a pretty good job. I was impressed with their show. I thought they would be a lot worse.

I just might have to try to make that Indy show!

  4. They usually come to Bowling Green every year, but I noticed not this year :(.

I’ve seen Jacksonville State’s band, they are really good.
