Swing Dancing

Ran across this nice write-up on the Cincinnati area swing dance scene and the place where I go swing dancing. Thought I’d pass it along

  1. WooHoo! Sounds fun to me! I’m thinking I better stick to the basics for a while before I attempt the Lindy Hop. :o)

  2. Chris definitely need to see about getting together for this sometime, though thursday nights are not good for me. Maybe there will be some weekend activity here or there that will work out. Also dont expect much out of me.

  3. They have Saturday dances about once a month. I’ll let you know when the next one is. Also, in past years, there’s been outdoor dances at Coney Island. Not sure when those start up, though.

  4. That could be fun if there are random guys who know how to swing and will dance with strangers. I think swing could be a lot of fun if you have a partner you will actually dance with. However, as a girl I think I’ll wait to take lessons when I’m taking them for the benefit os someone I will get the benefit of their learning. hehe

  5. I totally agree with you Ash. Also, as long as these guys dont have on way too much cologne that you smell if for the next million hrs, no matter how much you wash your hands.

  6. You guys must not have had good experiences with swing dancing before… There are a lot of good, friendly, “random” guys that go to the place I go and aren’t afraid of asking girls, even strangers. They like teaching, too, so they’ll give you an on the spot lesson. I don’t really have a partner, though I have several friends that go with me, and we just have fun dancing with anyone and everyone. There are a few weirdo, smelly old guys there, but for the most part, it’s a really great environment.

  7. Well, Chris let me tell you about the people in our class:
-The older man w/ too much cologne (see Robin’s post). We literally washed and washed our hand and it still stunk!!
-The other older man who *knows* what he’s doing but pulls you a little too close since he’s old and a stranger… ya know?
-The VERY old man who doesn’t really move but insists on telling YOU what you should be doing.
-3 Indian guys (ok, so they’re not bad, but it’s weird to dance with them knowing in their culture men and women generally dance separately)
-a few younger guys who talk to you and then don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing.

Well, I think you get the picture. I tried to recruite some somewhat normal guys but it didn’t work out too well.

  8. Yeah Swing! Chris, you missed a good time last week, so ya better come this week! A note to all who are interested-This place is awesome! There are maybe 2 or 3 crazy guys there, but honestly the environment is smoke-free, somewhat Christian and it has great tunes!

  9. Ashlee…great description of the class. So you see where we are coming from now :-)

  10. Ugh… All you adults get all the fun… :-)

  11. Bryan,
You should start learning now and then when you’re “old enough” you can have even more fun!
