Presidential Election
The Associated Press reports that Americans Are Uninformed on Bush, Kerry.
There’s about a month until the elections. Have you decided who you’re voting for? Do you know who the candidates are and where they stand on the issues important to you and the country? I would encourage you to at least do some research before election day, Nov 2, rolls around. There was one debate last night, and two more coming up. These are good ways to get to know the candidates. Also, check out the following sites, which give a list of issues and where the candidate stands:

the two-party system here in the US really burns me. i hate when people ask, “who are you voting for, (insert republican) or (insert democrat)?”
rachel: “neither”
ignorant person: “you’re not voting?”
rachel: “no, i never said that. i’m voting for (insert choice here, usually libertarian candidate)”
ignorant person: “oh.”
i’m adding to your resources for research.
this quiz tells you what platform you agree with compares democratic, republican, libertarian, green):

this site shows you ALL the candidates and their stances (keep in mind there are VPs and primaries in there):

also, if you’re not sure where you stand, you can take the world’s smallest political quiz:

i guess i could have made those into links, but i’m lazy.

thanks for the additional links, rachel! I noticed on the presidentialwatch.com website that they didn’t have nader or anyone else. I was a little surprised by that.
(I made your links into actual links)

thanks dude!

So which day of the week was that match done? I am sure Kerry’s opinions have changed since it was done.
Oct 3rd, 2004 at 12:14:46
shut up Jeff ;-). John Kerry is not a flip flopper and its rude to call him that. Kerry clearly won the debate last night and lets pray that John Edwards and John Kerry keep it up… For the sake of our country. Just because George W. Bush is a Christian doesn’t make him fit for president. I wish people would see that….

Hey now, Bryan, let’s be nice about it.
Kerry is a flip flopper and there are tons of sites out there that will list the issues he’s changed he mind on, with proof of it. Do some research on it and see what you can find out. We’re not just saying that about Kerry; it’s the truth and I invite you to find that out for yourself through research.
No one said that just because Bush is a Christian makes him fit for Presidency. Him being a Christian is definitely a plus in my mind, since he stands for many of the things that I do, but that’s not the only reason that I’m voting for him. Let me ask you, Bryan, are you Pro-Choice? Are you for Gay marriage? Are you against prayer in schools? Those are Kerry’s stances on those issues. Be aware and realize the impact that he could have on the country. I’m not telling you who to vote for, but I think there’s a lot more to the candidates than you are truly seeing…

Well said Chris.
Oct 4th, 2004 at 11:23:35
I agree with Jeremy, well said Chris.
Rachel is also correct there are more parties than just democrat and republican. Each person should vote for whom they feel is the right canidate and not because of their party. Although, I will admit on the local and some State elections I will vote with my party because generally that canidate will share most of my believes.

now now, chris, let’s be nice about it.
you and bryan are along the same lines of passionate responses about your candidate.
i am pro-choice, i am for gay marriage, and i am against (organized) prayer in schools. i am aware of the impact that kerry could have on the country, and i would say it’s a step in the right direction.
man, i am typically current events illiterate, but i’ve really warmed up to my responsibility as a citizen since this health care issue thing came about! i’m going to frankfort tomorrow to talk to my legislators and protest this major slap in the face governor fletcher is handing state employees in the terms of health insurance.
Oct 4th, 2004 at 23:10:38
While I totally disagree with your views in the middle paragraph Rachel, I do agree about Governor Fletcher. I have two family members that his ridiculous plan is directly affecting. On another note, I feel that Christians being too worried to offend someone that they won’t stand for what they believe has allowed our society to slip into the sin and troubles that it is in now (speaking about gay marriage, abortion, and prayer not being allowed in school). A President who will not care to step on a few toes to uphold his Christian beliefs will always have my vote.

Gay marriage should be legal (I mean why not, they have the right to. How will them getting married effect any of us? This country was not built on RELIGION… It just wasn’t!), prayer doesn’t belong in school (this country wasn’t built on religion!), “Under God” should be taken out of the “Pledge of Allegience.”(ya see there’s this little thing call seperation from church and
state. And making children in a public pledge their allegience to a specific God every day is just absurd! It violate their first amendment and a few other lawas and rights. Also… this country was not built on religion!) We need to insure all current and future generations with social security (not cut off my generation and my parents from it), we should have never gone to iraq (they were not a threat to us and in no way connected to any terrorist organization. Saddam never threatened the US. We never found any WMD’s either) and should be out now, No child left behind is a VERY weak and costly system, job loss and weak economy are do to poor leadership, budget managment, and decision making from federal gov and the rich. abortion should be legal (an embryo is not life. it’s been scientifically proven. It should be a women’s choice on what they want to do with their body. Same goes with Stem cell research) and stem cell research should be completly legal and allowed

Um, Bryan, there’s a lot I can say, but I’m going to hold my tongue on most of it. Each person is entitled to his/her own beliefs. However, since you’re a relative, and I thought I knew you (which apparently I don’t), I will say a couple things. First, I guess you didn’t check out those links I posted a while ago, because Kerry favors the “No Child Left Behind” Act, which apparently you don’t. Do you even know what that Act is, or are you just regurgitating what you’ve heard around school? Secondly, since you say you’re a Christian, I would invite you to read your Bible and pray about these issues, since you’re taking the unbiblical stance on many of them. Lastly, check your motivations on why you believe some of these things. I know your parents and other family members didn’t raise you as such a “radical liberal,” so are you doing this for attention, or as an act of rebellion? We’ll be praying for you Bryan.

Yeah, this is what I call a discussion. Both candidates can quite possibly have good ideas to make the country better. Bush has good ideas that I agree with but then Kerry does as well. Weighing each of these I have to decide which is more important science research (since my job depends on it), education, morals, economics, security etc. I think it is what we all must do, and not just go for party lines, to go with what rachel said. And bryan, not to be on the attack, but think through your thoughts on some issues here. They may sound good now, but if implemented where could it lead? And what scientific research determines that an embryo is not life? I haven’t seen any evidence/criteria to determine life in development. Just wondering.
