Movie Review - Shark Tale

This weekend, I saw the newest animated movie from Dreamworks, Shark Tale. Tons of celebrity voices in this movie, including Will Smith, Robert DeNiro, Renee Zellweger, and Jack Black, just to name a few. The fish even somewhat resembled the actor/actress voicing them, which was a nice touch.

The movie wasn’t quite what I expected, however. It was pretty funny at times and the animation was good, but it just didn’t “wow” me like Shrek or Nemo did. In fact, it was like they were trying too hard to be the next Nemo. There wasn’t much of a connection with the characters, either, as they didn’t develop the characters as much as they probably could have. Also, there seems to be a hidden message of approval towards a lifestyle that some of us may not agree with. I’m not going to point it out, because I don’t want to make people look for it, but those of you who go see the movie may pick up on what I’m talking about…

All in all, this was a disappointing film for me. I give it a C. Don’t worry, though, because based on the trailers they were playing before the movie, there are at least 4 or 5 animated movies coming out in the coming months.
