Larkin Won’t Be Coming Back to Reds

Barry Larkin, who played shortstop 19 years for the Cincinnati Reds, won’t be coming back next season. Larkin was my “role model” in my Little League days, when I played shortstop and wore his number (11). He was an awesome player in his day, but he is getting “old.” He was supposed to retire this season, but had a really good year and decided to come back for one more. Personally, I think he should have stuck with his decision and gone out on top, but I guess he loved the game too much and wanted to play as long as he could. The Reds should have kept him around for one last year, in a limited role, so he could finish out his career with the same team he started. It wasn’t meant to be, though… Thanks for everything Barry!

  1. If he would have stayed for a limited role, they might have kept him. The problem was that he was griping about his playing time. He didn’t want to sit on the bench and let the younger guys get their day in the sun, he wanted to play every game. I think that had a big part in the decision.
