Ohio Renaissance Festival

JoustI went up to the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg, OH on Sunday. I’ve been wanting to go for several years now, but never had the chance. Finally had the opportunity this year, though. It was a fun time and an awesome day weather-wise. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect, other than Renaissance clothing and shows. And that was basically what we got.

Mudde ShowThe first show we saw was probably one of the most well-known ones, the “Mudde Show.” They performed a rendition of Dante’s Inferno and it was hilarious! Lots of ad lib and spontaneity, which made it all the more enjoyable. Luckily, we didn’t get any mud on us, which was good since it was the start of our day.

We also saw two rounds of jousting, which were also enjoyable in themselves, but the sword fights that went along with it were boring. The main problem with this and some of the other shows was that there were all too choreographed. They’ve been putting on these shows for almost two months now, and it shows.

In addition to those shows, we saw “Daniel, Duke of Danger,” who basically balanced himself on a ladder and did some tricks; “The Blade Brothers,” a boring show with two “brothers” telling a story and sword fighting; and the Human Chess Match, which was pretty enjoyable and funny.

All in all, it was an good experience, even with the boring shows, and I would go back. There are a few more shows I would like to see that we didn’t get too, and it’s always interesting to see the costumes and hear that talk from that time period.

  1. I didn’t get to go this year…I hate being poor…but my favorite show is always the swords men. They are pretty funny. They also do Beowulf in the Mudde Show, which I think is even funnier than Dante’s Inferno. :-)

  2. I agree totally with Lori-Ahhh Great Lori’s think alike! :) The Swordsmen I thought were very comical and Beowulf kicks Dante’s butt. This year I also saw the Viking Show (another muddy) and it was pretty funny too!

  3. Definitely fun times in the mud! I also think its cool to see people joust.

  4. Ya know the Renaissance Festival was the place I met up with Jamie again a few years. Ohh… I feel some bad memories coming on…

  5. this was my first year at this renfest.

i didn’t think dante’s inferno was that funny. i’ve heard beowulf is much better, and it’s verified here! i too loved the swordsmen… they were hilarious with their “gentlemanly behavior.” the joust was a joke.

of course, what i REALLY liked was having a bread bowl of soup. i love bread bowls!
