Jalopnik.com reports on the New Batmobile Designed for Batman Begins

According to Rolling Stone magazine, Chris Nolan, director of the latest installment in the Batman movie series, the prequel “Batman Begins,” spent more than a year working on the new Batmobile with the movie’s production designer. That makes sense, since this one is the most complex, plot-wise.

As the story goes, Bruce Wayne pieces together this combat-ready ride from military equipment laying around his murdered parents’ farm, thus its slapdash “Road Warrior” like comportment. According to Rolling Stone, which ran a feature spread on the car in its latest issue, three Batmobiles were built for the movie. Each one is outfitted with a jet engine, along with a 350ci, 500hp Chevrolet V8, and sports four 44-inch Superswamper tires in the rear (and two smaller ones in the front). The cost for all this customized madness? That’ll be $1.7 million. Each.

Yuck, I don’t like the new design at all. Your thoughts?

    I hate it. It looks to “back to the future-ish” for me. The original Batmobile was the bomb. I dont see why they had to change it…

    I understand what they are going for. The whole “Bruce Wayne built the first one on his on” yada yada. But really, he’s Batman. He coulda pieced together a better car than that. Geeze, I think I’d drive an armored El Camino over that.

    its pretty cool looking…for some sci fi terminator type of movie. But not bat man. I hate it when movies get off the path of the real story. If he built that on a farm…maybe his parents belonged to some back woods militia or something :)
    It should have been built out of some vehicle from that time period or something.

    I think this is the best batmobile ever maked, cause it´s more realistic maybe doesn’t have the the better looking, but when someone makes a car that can makes the things that it makes, cannot de thinking in how it will looks, in my opinion the car always should be look like this if we espect to see doing amazing moves.
