UK Tops Louisville!

UK LogoHotdog, we did it! I didn’t get to see much of the game because of the wedding I was in today, but I know we were down by 16 points at the half, and it stayed around that much for a good portion of the second half. Man, I was grimacing at the thought that this would be the first time in the history of the rivalry that we had lost to Louisville three years in a row. But today was our day! Sparked by WKU transfer Patrick Sparks, we pulled it off and won the game 60-58 (yay! ;-)). We were down 57-58 in the final seconds when Sparks went up for a three point shot and was fouled. He made all his free throws and pulled off the squeaker. Woohoo! Sparks ended up with 25 points, again showing that he’s recovered from his early season slump and poor play, to be a player that we can depend on in the clutch, definately something we need down the stretch. This game will go a long way in building the confidence of the team, the freshman especially.

This win, where they led for less than six of the game’s 40 minutes, matched its largest comeback from a halftime deficit in school history. (From ESPN.com)

  1. Yeah, somebody should send WKU a card thanking them for getting Sparks ready to come to a real basketball program!!

  2. Boy that game was intense! If you know anyone with it on tape, I’d recommend watching that one! I’m really glad I got to watch it.

  3. Luckily, I did tape it. I’ve watched the first half so far and can’t believe they won. Wow, they looked bad and couldn’t make a shot. But we won in the end, and that’s what counts!

  4. “Yeah, somebody should send WKU a card thanking them for getting Sparks ready to come to a real basketball program!!”

    You are an idiot.

  5. You should send a letter to your coach telling him that he can’t judge talent. Sparks wanted to go to your little school from day one, but Tubby didn’t think he could cut it. It took him playing at Div I WKU for Tubby to see talent.

  6. I agree with you about our coach! But even with a coach that can’t judge talent, were still better than WKU. Even without being recruited, Sparks still came to UK. Why? because he wanted to be a part of a good program. End of story!!

  7. Plus, what does that say about WKU? A player that wasn’t even recruited by a school would transfer to that school from a program that wanted him so bad?

  8. It says Sparks has no loyalty.. perfect for uk.

  9. I thought Sparks left because Felton did… I know many players are tied more to a coach they respect rather than the school. No matter the school, many players have transferred when a coach has left, either because they didn’t like the new coach or because they wanted to look for better opportunities elsewhere. UK does have that storied tradition that helps attract players, and while WKU is good in it’s own right, UK has had a much bigger profile. For someone looking to make a name for themselves, whether to make the jump to the NBA or otherwise, you have to admit, Jeff, that UK would attract more attention than WKU. Again, I’m not saying WKU isn’t good, but the stage is much bigger at schools such as UK, Louisville, Duke, UNC, etc.

  10. Sparks isn’t going Pro.

Sparks had already decided to leave before Felton did. His daddy had a hand in that.

Like I said, I know what’s going on. I’ve talked to enough people, coaches included, to know the story.

  11. I never said Sparks was going pro, but was just trying to state something in general.

  12. I am proud to claim myself as an acquaintance of the Sparks family… wahoo!

  13. I missed the uk-louisville game, any chance that I could purchase a tape from you?

  14. Sorry, Jason. I recorded it on my DVR and already erased it…
