Its amazing how much an earthquake can do. The whole earth changes reminds me of the story about the Mississippi River running the opposite direction. (Sorry I dont have all the facts, but those with more free time to dig them up please feel free)
Animals are usually pretty smart and sense danger. Not sure what it is about us humans. Maybe we are too trusting, but we seem to find ourselves in danger more than sensing and getting out of it before its too late.
