CapitalOne 2004 Mascot Bowl Winner
The CapitalOne 2004 Mascot Bowl winner has been announced.
Congratulations to 2004 Capital One Mascot of the Year, Monte the Grizzly of University of Montana for winning this coveted title. By winning three consecutive weeks down the stretch, Monte was able to move high enough in the online portion of the vote, which counts for 50% of the overall contest, to take the crown for the second time in three years. The other 50% is based on a judges’ ranking, which was conducted when members of the 2004 All-America Mascot Team were selected.”
The Duke Dog from James Madison University won the online voting portion of the challenge with a perfect 11-0 record and 911618 votes (2nd most votes, behind South Carolina), but apparently failed to win enough of the judges votes to win overall.
Scratch, the mascot for the Univeristy of Kentucky, came in 5th place with a record of 5-6, but ended up with 911169, enough for third most votes.
Big Red, from Western Kentucky University, came in 11th place with a record of 4-7, but had 911034 votes, only 135 votes behind UK for the 4th most votes.

The system sounds so complicated.
Maybe they’re inspired by the BCS.
