Outsourcing the Drive-Through
This story from oregonlive.com. There are a handful of McDonald’s restaurants that use a call center to take drive-through orders.
So, how does it work?
The call taker [at the call center] in Grand Forks [North Dakota] enters your order into a computer and relays it back to the home restaurant, where it pops up on a screen in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, a digital camera photographs your car as you drive through. The photo pops up on a separate screen next to the order at the drive-through cashier’s window to match the order with the car.
This could be a good thing, freeing up workers to handle making the orders and helping in-store customers. You would also not have to worry about dealing with some distracted or grumpy teenager, but it definately loses the personal touch, talking to someone who could be several states away. How personal is talking to a speaker box to begin with, though…
Just another sign of the times

LOL…that could be true. Understanding computers is definitely becoming more and more of a requirement.
Okay so a I am trying to figure out how this really helps save money and not getting it. Because you still have to have someone at the window to get your money and hand you your order. Most places I go its the same person taking the orders. Though sometimes there are 2 people. But they also have headsets so that they can walk around. Seems like the orders could come in faster than the food could get produced and out the door.
