Pastor Hands $14,000 to Congregation
From Yahoo News:
Okla. Pastor Hands $14,000 to Congregation
A pastor handed out $14,000 to congregation members to invest for seven weeks, after which they are to bring the money and profits back to the church to be used in missionary work.

Loud gasps were heard throughout the 125-member, interdenominational church as the envelopes containing $100 and $50 bills were ripped opened after the Sunday sermon. Some members thought the bills were counterfeit. Others shook their heads in bewilderment.
Dyer had placed crisp $100 bills in red envelopes for adults and $50 bills in green envelopes for school-age children. “That is going to be a lot of fun,” Dyer said. “A lot of people already have ideas.”
…
Dyer said the church isn’t keeping track of who has the money, but did give one stipulation: it was not to be used to buy lottery tickets or to gamble.
I’m interested to see how this turns outs. Glenn, maybe you should try this at your church

Hmm…..this sounds a lot like a parable. I sure hope some of them don’t go out and bury their money
I’ve heard of others doing this too. Like you – I’ll wait and see what happens.

We did that two weeks ago at the church I attend down here. There have been some really interesting stories of investments made. Granted we were only given one dollar, so investments were actually really made with some other money put with it. But it has really been cool to hear what has been going on in the area with it. This church is awesome down here. Ohh and I did meet Ian Esklin on Sunday Chris.
Yeah, I’ve heard of other churches doing this, but what got my attention about this particular church was the amount given – $100 per adult. Quite a bit different than $1. What did you do with your dollar, David?
Glad you got to meet Ian. When do I get to? Actually, I want to try to make a visit before I start working again. I know this weekend is out, but maybe sometime after that…
Wow, that’s very interesting! Wonder what would happen if we all would think of everything we have as belonging to the church? Would we use it differently?
