Upgrade

I just upgraded my blogging software from a beta version/nightly build of Wordpress 1.5 to the official WordPress 1.5 release. Not much should have been affected (knock on wood), but please leave a comment if something doesn’t look right or work right. Thanks.

And yes, I did back up my website and database before the upgrade :-)

I’m very happy with the 1.5 version of Wordpress so far (I’ve been using a 1.5 nightly build since my…uh…incident in mid-January). Lots of new features, easier to have different website designs, better protection against comment spam, several bugs/issues I had with version 1.2.x were fixed, slightly reorganized admin interface, cleanup of the database tables, etc. I know many of you prefer the ease of blogger.com, xanga, and livejournal, but for those who can , I would definitely recommend installing and using Wordpress. Chicken Scratch recently made the switch from blogger.com to Wordpress, and I think he’s happy with it.

Now that I’ve upgraded, maybe I’ll stop messing with the site for a while…yeah right.

[UPDATE: Sigh...upgrade was backed out since the popup comments stopped working. I'll try to figure out what minute change has caused those to break and try the upgrade again later. I'm back on the nightly build for now...]

  1. So I will wait till you tell me it is safe.

  2. Actually, you should be okay with the upgrade, Jeff. I only had problems with the popup comments. Something with the template I was using that got changed in the newest version of WP. Everything worked fine with the non-popup comments, like you have. You shouldn’t having any problems upgrading. Shouldn’t…

  3. If it works, LEAVE IT ALONE.

What makes it worth the upgrade?

  4. It makes it worth it by being on the latest stable release. Remember, the nightly builds that we used aren’t official releases and could potentially be buggy. All plugins and themes and such will be made for the official release, not the nightly builds.
