Video Tape Issues

I have two video tapes from several years ago that I can’t watch and I’m hoping one of my readers out there can help solve this problem…

The videos were taken during my summers working at ACE Computer Camp (1999-2000), and I really don’t know what’s on them (other than some girls from a bagpipe camp…don’t ask). I would like to watch them, and remember those days, but I’ve having trouble doing so. See, we used Sony camcorders that used the Hi8 format/tapes. I don’t have the camera anymore, since it was property of the camp, so I can’t hook the camera up to my TV and play the tape that way. I’ve looked for an adapter that will let me play the smaller tapes in a VCR, but apparently they don’t make them for Hi8, only VHS-C. Looking at a BestBuy.com FAQ, I see something that says “Hi8 tapes are not compatible with a VHS VCR.” Does that mean I can’t even transfer the video to a VHS tape? Who makes a format that isn’t compatible with the leading technology, anyway?!?

Anyone out there know of some way that I could at least watch these tapes? Anyone have a Hi8 camcorder?

Thanks

  1. I’ve got a sony hi8 camcorder…just have to dig it up. The batteries are dead, so the only way it works is with the charger plugged into it. Last time I used it was 2 or 3 years ago. I’ll dig it out tonight and you can borrow it.

  2. Yay! Thanks!

  3. I have one also…and know where it is… :-D
