AOL Web Mail

AOL will be rolling out an updated version of it’s Mail on the Web later this year. The service will be free, and is targeted not only at it’s members, but also at non-members.

From eWeek.com:

America Online Inc. is rolling out a major upgrade to AOL Mail on the Web that lays the groundwork for a free Web mail service to be launched later this year. The move furthers AOL’s strategy of opening its doors to nonmembers and will place the company on par with portal rivals MSN, Yahoo and Google.

For me, this isn’t exactly newsworthy except for the following:

The new Web mail service integrates AOL Instant Messenger presence awareness, drag and drop capabilities, a new address book, and the ability to rescind unread e-mail sent to other AOL members within a revamped user interface.

Integrating AIM into the service will be a convenient feature for it’s users. Also, the ability to “take back” unread email could be nice and save many people from hastily sent messages, though it seems a little too “intrusive” at the same time. If someone sent me an email, I don’t know how I feel if they retracted it…

As for me, I’ll probably just stick with gmail.com. I still have tons of invites if anyone would like a gmail account.

  1. Boo AOL! AOL is the devil!! Hey, if you have an invite for GMail, then hook me up! I think I’ve had the same hotmail account since they first started up. I was a freshman in high school when I signed up for it. Geeze, that was 10 years ago. I also have an account with fuse, and through my website. But I think I would really like a GMail account.

  2. Im still scared to open up my gmail account again. Its been 2.5 months since I have opened it up. And another 1.5 since I have read half the emails in it.

Its a great place to put mail from solicitations.

I dont need another mail account. I barely use all the ones I have now.
