Pixar’s Groovy Non-cubicles

Wish I could work at a place as cool as this!

A lot of the animators decided early on that they didn’t want cubicles, so instead, Pixar found these groovy little cottages that they bought for them. Walking through the animation department is like walking through a neighborhood for dwarves. Lots of little houses laid out along “streets,” each one with an address on the door.

  1. THat sounds like a lot of fun. Better than what we are supposedly going to which is a big cube farm set up in pods. With 4 people per bigger cube instead of several individual cubes. I am not looking forward to this at all. We will see how it all plays out come Aug.

  2. That’s actually the way things are setup where I work - blocks of four desks in a cubicle area. It’s actually not too bad, though you don’t have as much privacy as having your own cubicle. You get to interact with your co-workers more and have more fun than being holed up on your own. However, if you don’t like the people you share an area with, it could be a problem. Might be a problem if you’re on a tight deadline, too, since it’s easier to get distractedand remain focused.

  3. Glad thats its not too bad. But you hit my biggest concern on the head, liking the people in your cube. Since I will most likely be put with the other dba, it wont be a good situation. he is one of the moodest men I know and sometimes forgets that we are equals :-)
