Dodgeball in the Paper
As some of you know, I play dodgeball once a week in a league sponsored by the Boone County Parks and Recreation Department. Last night, a photographer and reporter were hanging around as we played. Turns out they were getting material for an article about dodgeball that would be in today’s Kentucky Enquirer. I don’t get the paper at home, but they have a copy at work, so I made sure to take a look during my lunch break (which I normally do anyway). Lo and behold, the dodgeball article was the lead article on the front page of the Local News section. They only had one picture, and I wasn’t in it, but it was still cool that they featured it like they did. And thankfully, the write-up is online so everyone can read it
Dodgeball fever may have faded with the Ben Stiller movie hype, but the game is still going strong in Boone County. The Boone County Parks and Recreation’s third-year league - unique for its outdoor locale - is home to 32 adults and counting.
Not bad for a program originally designed for kids.
“The first year we had it, 100 kids signed up. The parents started watching to see what it was all about, and so we decided to start a league for them,” Ankenbauer said.
