Hack a Traffic Light
I recently read an article that discussed how to built a MIRT. A MIRT is a Mobile Infra-Red Transmitter which can be used to change some traffic signals to green as they are approached.
Don’t worry, I’m not building this, though it would be pretty cool to have.
It is illegal, though.
The reason that I’m bringing up this article is because of this trick mentioned at the end.
How to hack a traffic light so that you can cross when ever you
want.Approach any cross walk button, and do this.
Step 1: Press the button 3 times after the other quickly, then two long
clicks for 1.2 seconds each with a 1.2 second pause between them, then one
short click, two long, and three short. This will immediatly change the don’t
walk to a walk, and change traffic signals at the same time.Step 2: If this did not work, change the long clicks to 1.5 seconds with 1.5
second pause between clicks
Interesting, but I wonder if it really works… If anyone tries it out and finds that it does indeed work, let me know. I bet it’s hard to get that timing right, and that’s a lot of button presses to get correct.
Too bad that couldn’t make the “code” for it Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-B-A ![]()

Umm, that isn’t correct on the Konami code. Wikipidea forgot the “select-start’ at the end. The ‘true’ Konami code always had to have the “select-start” at the end. I don’t know about the newer games they put it in.

Actually, only “start” could be considered part of that code. If you remember games like Contra, you would enter the code before the first menu screen. “select” would then select one player or two player, then start would start the game. I had always remembered the code with the “select-start” but that was because I typically played a two player game. If you did a one-player game, you wouldn’t use the select, only the start…
I’ve verified this on several other sites as well. The actual “code” part doesn’t techinically include “start” or “select-start” since everyone has to press that, no matter if they entered the code or not.
