Prices at the Pump

Yikes! Gas is over three dollars a gallon now! My gas light came on today (nothing out of the ordinary for me ;-) ), so I had to fill up for $3.09/gallon. The experts predicted it would rise over three dollars by the end of the year and they were right. Don’t think they expected on Hurricane Katrina contributing to the rise, though. Hopefully, now that President Bush has released oil from the reserves the prices will fall some, but some experts saying that we’ll be paying $4 a gallon in the not so distant future. I’m gonna need to take out a loan just to pay for gas!

  1. Hate to burst your bubble though. Bush releasing oil from the reserves isn’t going to really help us out too much. It gives us crude oil but that oil has be refined to be gas and that all happens….you guessed it in the Gulf. Most of the oil refinement takes place there in New Orleans, Miss. area, so releasing extra isnt’ going to help out much till those plants get back online. Just have to be wise about where you are going.

  2. It doesn’t all happen in the Gulf. There are other areas of the country with refineries. As the article says, though, releasing the crude was meant to ease the interruption of service from offshore drilling operations and shipments from tankers. 95% of the oil output from the Gulf is out of service.

I think the point of releasing the crude is to help keep the prices down to some extent, rather than them skyrocketing. The President did the same thing when Hurricane Andrew (I think that’s the one) hit a few years ago.

  3. There are refineries in Texas, California, Illinois and other states. Chris is right. The other problem is many shipping ports along the gulf are out of order now, so the tankers can’t dock to unload their shipments.
I got my temporary permit for my motorcycle today and will be taking the motorcycle safety foundation course a week from tomorrow.
