Punk Rawk Show

Another weekend, another great concert!

On Saturday, James, Nick, Bill, Lori T and Paul and Emily took a little trip up to Paramount’s King’s Island for a day of amusement park and concert fun.

We got to the park sometime after 1pm on a cold and cloudy day. Weather didn’t matter to us though - we were pumped for the show! We started off the day by riding Delirium, followed by my fave coaster -The Beast.

Earlier that day, Emily had spotted Coby and Ibrehem, of Survivor fame, entering the park. Some of us got off The Beast before others, and while we were waiting, who do we see but Coby and Ibrehem in line for it. They noticed us staring at them and waved. I tried taking a pic with my camera phone, but it didn’t really turn out all that well…

Next, we decided to try The Italian Job, a new ride this season. After standing in line for about an hour, we were a couple of trains away from getting on when it broke down. Bummer! We waited around for a while, but realized that they weren’t going to get it fixed anytime soon. Time for some food!

Filled with pizza and cheese sticks, we road the backwards Racer, stopped by the candy store and headed out the Timberwolf for the event of the day - the MxPx and RelientK concert!

This was the first stop on the “Panic with a K” tour. Cincinnati is usually lucky to get a stop at all on many tours, so it’s pretty rare that a tour actually starts here. I’m sure glad we got this concert!

Rufio, a band from California, was first up. I had never heard of them or their music, so it was hard to get into their set, but they sounded decent. I was just anxious for them to get off stage and so we could get on with the main bands.

MxPx was up next. I had only heard a couple songs by them prior getting tickets to this concert. In prep for the show, I got their newest album, Panic, and gave it a listen. They’ve got some pretty good stuff. The album is still in the Now Playing channel of DW Radio if you’re interested in hearing it (just click Music in the menu and choose Now Playing). MxPx put on a great show with lots of energy. I recognized a little more than half of their set, which was good. Concerts are so much more enjoyable for me if I know the music. The band looked like they enjoyed being there and were having fun with the crowd which also added to the enjoyment. I was still anxious to hear my favorite band though.

MxPx wrapped up, the roadies worked on changing the stage, and music began to play - the theme song to Full House.

And out came RelientK! Fitting entrance for this crazy and fun loving band. It was a great show, that included most of my faves - Sadie Hawkins Dance, Pressing On, More Than Useless…Heck, just about every song is my fave, so there’s not need to list them all! They did a “special” song, too - their own version of the theme song to Full House. As my friend X likes to say, they rocked my face off! The band didn’t have quite as much energy as MxPx, but it was still an excellent show. It seemed to fly by, though, but I guess that happens when you know every word to every song ;-) You never can get enough of your favorite band live in concert!

Unfortunately, the few pictures I took with my camera phone didn’t turn out because of the lights from the stage. Still learning how to use it properly…

Paul is going to be a guest author here on Digital Wilderness and give his take on the day. Be watching for his post soon.

Next up? Maybe the See Spot Rock in December in Nashville, TN, featuring The Wedding, Day of Fire, Stellar Kart and more.

Music is awesome! Thanks for the gift, God!

  1. Theme parks are so much more fun when the sun’s outside. I lost my phone to the lake beneath the Batman ride…;-)

That was tons of fun! I’m soo glad I got to go.

  2. Sounds like fun. Don’t worry about missing the Italian Job. It’s not that great. The entire ride lasts about 30 seconds….that’s it.

  3. ditto to jeremy’s comment. it is so not worth the wait.
