Domain Names

Yahoo! has a sale on domain names, offering them for $2.99/year (limit 1) until Oct 31. Can’t pass that up! I can’t decide which domain to buy next, though. I already own kyblogger.com, chrisvaught.com and digitalwilderness.net. Some domains that I have in mind are:

  • wildernessglenn.com (my middle name is Glenn)
  • AdamAgain.us (from a Supertones song)
  • IAmUnderstood.com (RelientK song)
  • kentuckyblog.com
  • kentuckyblogger.com
  • kentuckybloggers.com
  • kybloggers.com

Those last two would potentially be used as a portal for KY bloggers some day, though that’s a ways down the road. kyblogs.com, which seemed promising, hasn’t been updated for some time.

Which of those domain do you like best? Any suggestions on other domain names? Should I stick with .com since it seems to seems to be the most popular or start branching out into .us, .name, etc? I would like to go on and get a domain for my internet café, but I don’t know what the name will be yet. I really like Beyond the Brim, but the domain is taken and there’s a coffeeshop by that name in Owensboro…

  1. I like IAmUnderstood the best.

  2. I think three domains is good enough don’t you think? It’s pointless and a waste of money to buy anymore…

  3. Ok, just curious, but what are you going to do with another domain name….besides the one for the cafe that is?

  4. Might as well get good domains while they’re still available!

Also, one day, I may decide to have separate sites. chrisvaught.com could be a personal, non blog site, while kyblogger.com would be my blog. Or kyblogger specializing in UK basketball or something similar. And I think saying kentuckyblogger.com would be better than “K” “Y” blogger.com.

Who knows when someone may want to buy one, too. Imagine if I could sell a domain for hundreds of dollars. Cha-ching!

Not that anything like that would happen, and if it does, not soon, but I’m just thinking outload on the whole thing. I wouldn’t buy another domain if it was expensive, but $2.99 is cheap, so it’s more of a “why not” thing.

But, like I said, I would like to make it more meaningful by getting a domain for my internet cafe… Any suggestions on names or on domains that I could use for Beyond the Brim?

And Bryan, does this all sound pointless to you still? You really need to work on your attitude when you leave comments. Maybe you’re just coming across the wrong way, but you could word it differently, maybe like Jeremy did, to get your point across. Geesh.

  5. i was being sarcastic heh. maybe if i put smileys to represent emotions then you wouldn’t take me the wrong way. :-)

  6. it totally depends on what you want to do with your domain name. you know deals like that will come around again, so i’d just wait. UNLESS you can find a good name for your internet cafe. maybe something to do with bytes/bites?

  7. Maybe I’ll go ahead and take the plunge…

  8. Gotcha. Ya know, that reminded me. I have a friend from high school that owns lexingtonky.com. He was wanting me to help him set up a business around it, and we could be partners. The last time I talked to him, we were talking about selling advertising space on it for Lexington businesses. I really need to email him and see if he is still interested.

  9. What do you all think about these domains for “Beyond the Brim - Internet Cafe and Bookstore?”

    beyondcafe.com
    beyondbrim.com
    beyondthecafe.com
    beyondthebrim.us
    beyondthebrim.biz
    beyondthebrimcafe.com

I have my choice, but would like to know what your opinion is. Consider it a focus group ;-)

  10. Hmm, what about Beyond the Brew? That seems promising…

  11. I like beyondthebrim.us or .biz

Unless I’m reading this, it looks like the offer is valid until 12/31/2005. In the footnote on this page.

  12. Hmm, either I read it wrong the first time, or they extended the offer a month. Good, didn’t want to rush the decision.

  13. I think it may be the latter, I thought I saw the October date too, initially.

  14. I’d go with beyondthebrim.* Sounds promising!

  15. This is chris at David’s computer…
Here are a couple of other domains that I’ve thought of that I’m listing here more for the sake of having them “written” down somewhere than anything.

    shiftingsand.???
    sharethewell.???
    fromgroundtoglory.com

These were inspired by Caedmon’s Call.
