Christmas Light Show

This has been going around the ‘net for a couple weeks, so you may have seen it, but if you haven’t, check it out:

Christmas Lights set to Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Wizard in Winter
Watch (wmv - 4.83MB)

Wow, someone had a lot of time on their hands to take individual pictures of all the different light configurations and then put them together with the tune.

But wait, it’s real!

This display was the work of Carson Williams, a Mason, Ohio, electrical engineer who spent about three hours sequencing the 88 Light-O-Rama channels that controlled the 16,000 Christmas lights in his annual holiday lighting spectacular (from Christmas 2004). His 2005 display includes over 25,000 lights that he spent nearly two months hooking up. So that the Williams’ neighbors aren’t disturbed by constant noise, viewers driving by the house are informed by signs to tune in to a signal broadcast over a low-power FM radio station to hear the musical accompaniment.

Wow! Now that’s really having a lot of time on your hands!

Mason, Ohio isn’t all that far away from me (it’s by King’s Island) so maybe I’ll make the trip to see it in person. I wonder how annoying this would be to the neighbors…

  1. It only runs from 6 - 10 pm, so keep that in mind when making the trip. Friend of mine went by there last weekend and it was ‘offline’ for troubleshooting.

  2. From what I’ve heard locally, the city has shut down the display, or at least stopped the animated aspect of it, because of the traffic and accidents it was causing in the neighborhood….

  3. That’s awesome!!

  4. I am so sorry that they made you stop it. Im amazed that you could do such a thing…you must be such a smart person. I only wish that I could have come there and seen it. You should have a GREAT prize for what you worked so hard to do.

  5. Awesome display. Maybe the city of Mason should pay you to set up a display for the city. It would surely bring in commerce.

  6. That was the most spectacular light show I have seen since I went to the 1984 Rush concert. One week before I saw your presentation on the national news here on the east coast, my dad sent me a link about your show and I was amazed. Some comments have been made here about awards you should recieve and they are so correct. (Perhaps a City of Manson lighting contract for the holidays that would bring you recognition and compensation for your efforts and so that many more people could enjoy the wonderful work that you do). Then again perhaps it was just something you did for your own pleasure and should that be the case well done and thank you for the memory. Your talents are nothing that will be forgotten anytime soon for myself and likely many others. Happy holidays and many happy returns to you. Thank you from a astounded fan of your work.

  7. Seems that this post needs some clarification. I am the webmaster of this site, not the guy who put on this light show. I am not Carson Williams of Mason, OH. I just saw an article about his show and passed along the video to my readers.

  8. Holy S**T!!!!

  9. does anyone know if the 2005 display was captured on video to post for this year yet? At least people could see it that way.

  10. this is a cool video. i wish that i have time like the person who did this show. but i fell very sorry for the next door neighbors that are trying to sleep. i love this music. i love the christmas show.

  11. Miller Lite acutally made a commercial of this. I saw it a couple of weeks ago. The local police made him shut it down because of too many accidents happening in front of his house. So Amazing

  12. Miller commercial at site below. Only about 30 seconds, in good color
