Reds Agree to Deal Casey to Pittsburgh

Reds’ management, how could you do this to us?!? Casey’s my favorite player, an all-around good guy for the team and the city, and they’re trading him to Pittsburg.

What do we get in return? Dave Williams, who was 10-11 with a 4.41 ERA in 25 starts last year, 17-26 record and 4.41 ERA in four major league seasons. Casey, on the other hand, is a three-time All-Star and career .305 hitter. Last year, he batted .312.

Makes no sense to me. Boo!!!

Trade Kearns or Pena instead! Keep Casey! Boo!

  1. that’s it. i’m done being a reds fan. how could they do that to us? get rid of austin kearnes!!!!

  2. I am so bummed! Casey was my favorite player too. REDS games will just not be the same.

  3. Man..I’ve only lived here for 4 years now. How mnany of the red’s from four years ago (and are still active in the MLB) are even on the team? 2? 3? Whats with this town??

  4. Especially pitchers. Williamson, Rietsma and several other good pitchers we have traded away -for what? A fielder that we’d end up trading away later for more pitching?

The Reds’ team will definitely not be the same without Casey, and I can see how this could negatively affect the clubhouse and winning next year. You need someone like Casey on your team to life the team up, be a leader and be an example to the others.

  5. New managmenet might be what this could lead to. What are they thinking?

  6. What they got was $7 million free’d up. They can send that picture to triple a for a while, and go out and buy a good pitcher. I liked Casey, but he wasn’t a big contributer on the field (yes, I know, he was off the field). Now they can put Dunn at first (which is his position anyway), and have their 4 big bats play every day. And you can’t get rid of Kearns. People don’t realize he’s been playing hurt since his rookie year. Now that he is healthy and Casey is gone, he will get to play every day. He will be able to hit for Casey’s average with Dunn’s power!!

  7. too bad for casey that he got traded to a crappy team.

  8. And now the management is dealing with Kearns and Lopez. They are going to end up with a completely different team when all is said and done. Plus most the of the pitchers they are trading for aren’t really that proven. It’s tough to give away talent for all of these pitchers that don’t do anything, (minus arroyo). Most people (according to ESPN) think the nationals got the better end of the deal. We’ll see if the Reds get anything going as a result of this.

  9. I never was a fan of Kearns, but it’s still sad to see him go. And Lopez…that’s a surprise! He was supposed to be the “shortstop of the future” after Larkin retired. So much for that - now we have an “old” guy (he’s 36) that we’ll have to replace sooner rather than later.

What shocks me the most about the trade is that Wagner was part of it. Someone wants Wagner? Do they realize he’s got a 6+ ERA - in the minors?!?

At least we got three pitchers, two of them relievers, in the deal.
