Superbowl XL…

…was more like Superdud Xtra Lame.

The game itself was pretty bad. There were many mistakes (dropped balls, bad play calls, etc) from both teams and the game was very badly officiated, mainly against Seattle. There wasn’t much scoring, either. 3-0 Seattle at the end of the first quarter and 7-3 Pittsburg at halftime. The final score was 21-10, in favor of Pittsburg (boo), but it didn’t feel like that many points were scored. The one highlight I can think of was Pittsburg’s final score, which came on one of the their “gadget” plays. Northern Kentucky’s son, native Shaun Alexander, had a decent game, with 95 rushing yards on 20 carries, but failed to score.

The halftime show was a total bore. It was basically a Rolling Stones concert, not much of a show at all, other than a few fireworks at the end. Zzz…

The commercials were even a bit disappointing. None of them had me rolling on the floor laughing or saying wow. There were still some pretty good ones, though. Here are the ones I liked the most:

  • Careerbuilder.com: Monkeys
  • Mastercard: MacGyver
  • FedEx: Cavemen
  • Sprint: Crime Deterrent
  • Ameriquest: Hospital
  • Budweiser: Streaking
  • Bud Light: Magic Fridge

Miss a commercial or want to see them again? You can watch them at the following sites:

What did you think of the game? The halftime show? What were your favorite commercials?

  1. Yep, I pretty much agree with everything you said!!

  2. I agree. That was hands down the WORST half time show. What did they say to the producers? “Remember last years budget? yeah, cut that in half and thats what you get”? Or maybe the stones were so expensive that they didn’t have anymore money left over. Terrible. I enjoyed a lot of the ads though. I agree that the officiating of the game left a lot to be desired.

  3. I do agreee as well with what has already been said, but in response to the halftime show. They don’t pay anybody to do that. The NFL asks somebody to do the halftime show, but they were saying yesterday afternoon, that the artists are not compensated for it. So the lack of a draw isn’t from lack of money. I think it’s still all from the wardrobe malfunction two years ago. But yeah, I think I went and did laundry during it.

  4. Well, if they didn’t pay the artist, what about the production company that was advertised just after the stones finished playing? Did they do it just to have their name put on TV? I’d be embarrased if I were them :) I don’t just compare it to the wardobe malfuctin show, how about U2’s performance at the 2002 superbowl? that was awesome as well.

  5. Chris, you pretty well covered it.
Grandma brother lives out in Tacoma Washington and called three times. I have decided that Seattle won the game. Given the TD that the officials took away from Seattle and the one they gave to Pittsburgh, lets see thats 14 points right. The officials must be on the take. How could they not see Raffenberger shove the ball from under his belly and across the goal line? Hummmmmmm I am sure that the Bengals would have won the whole thing if it had not been for dirty play. Hope the Bengals remember that next year.

  6. you should have a spot for people like me who want to post randomly not tied to any particular subject. I just wanted to say hi.

  7. Hi there, Ashley! Thanks for stopping by again. Actually, there are two spots where you can post something randomly. There’s the “shoutbox” in the side bar and a link to a random comments section both under the “Quick Links” and on the contact page, labeled as “Leave a Comment.”
