Hot As a Pistol

I saw this on Nick’s blog (as well as dozens of other blogs) and thought I’d repost it. It’s truly an uplifting and motivational story about an autistic boy who took to the basketball court and came up big. You can’t help but smile. :-)

Watch Watch the CBS news clip (wmv format)

Read more details from the Associated Press, via the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Jason McElwain, 17, had done everything he was asked to do for the Greece Athena High School [in Rochester, NY] basketball team - keep the stats, run the clock, hand out water bottles.

That all changed last week for the team manager in the final home game of the season. The senior, who is autistic and usually sits on the bench in a white shirt and black tie, put on a uniform and entered the game with his team way ahead.

McElwain proceeded to hit six 3-point shots, finished with 20 points and was carried off the court on his teammates’ shoulders.

“I ended my career on the right note,” he told the Associated Press by phone Thursday. “I was really hotter than a pistol!”

  7. it was a LDS school and basketball league…

  8. Where did you see that? There was nothing in the video or that article that stated it was an LDS school or that it was an LDS basketball league. In fact, according to it’s website, http://www.greece.k12.ny.us/ath/, it’s part of the Greece Central School District. Just curious where you heard that.

  9. Chris - I re-linked directly to you since I couldn’t find a good way to link to it at CBS. Hope you don’t mind. :)
