Springtime
Spring is here - hopefully for good! I’m tired of 70 degree sunny days followed by chilly 40 degree cloudy days. Let’s have some consistant warm weather! Guess we had to pay a little longer for our mild winter…
But it’s here now, and nothing shouts SPRINGTIME louder than the sounds of birds chirping, lawn mowers humming, children screaming…and the ratta-tat-tat of snares, boom-booms of basses, and the blaring of horns!
Ah, yes, the sweet sounds of DCI and drum corps!
Technically, the DCI season doesn’t start until almost summer - in June - but I can’t help but yearn for it with the sun and warmer weather.
To help get ya’ll in the mood, I’ve uploaded some of my favorite shows (music only):
To all three of you out there who follow DCI, what are some of your favorite shows?

Glad to see you have the Planets by the Cavaliers. I like the Blue Devils West Side Story as well. Anything with a lot of in your face ups and downs for the horns is always good. Maybe it’s the trumpet player coming out in me.

Listening to the music is good, but seeing the show and hearing the music would be much better.

Lol, didn’t you play the sousaphone in marching band, not the trumpet? I agree, it’s better live. Pick a show and we’ll go. I think they have one in Murphreesboro that is pretty big.

I was trying to think of the show down here and where is was located, but I think you are right. I did play the sousaphone, and I liked it too. You could never be too loud, but there is something about getting up a few octives (sp) on the trumpet (not that I could ever get up that high)

Lol, I remember my sophomore year in high school when we were the Ryle Sax Ensemble with band accompaniment.
Jason, Jake and I could wail. Care bear stare!
P.S. It’s octave

Yay for drum corps!
One of my favorite shows was when the Madison Scouts did Jesus Christ Superstar. And I liked the Cavies 007 show.
I think Southwind’s show is gonna be great this year, but I could just be biased since my sister is one of their mello techs.
I’m planning on going to their home show in Lexington June 25. We can ride down together if you want!

You know that Leslie’s brother, Alex, is playing for Southwind this year don’t you? Or did I fail to mention that? I say we get a group together to go to some shows. You, me, Leslie, LT, and whoever else wants to go!

Yeah, I knew Alex was in Southwind. He’s mentioned it on his myspace several times. Yes, let’s all go sometime! Sounds like a fun trip.
