Packed Weekend
This past weekend was one of those weekends where you’re almost looking forward to the work week so you can rest. Almost… I had a busy weekend, without much time to relax and unwind, but loved every minute of it.
It all started on Friday night when I went to see one of my favorite bands in concert - Kutless. They were playing at The Underground with Dizmas, Stellar Kart and Disciple. James, Nick and I met Tammy and Mindy at the show and had an awesome time. Great concert with great music! I had heard of all the bands, though I was only familiar with one song by Dizmas, which I do like. Stellar Kart is one of my up and coming new favorites, their album frequently showing up on my playlist, so it was good to see them live. Disciple is hard rock and I listened to them a lot last summer, during my hard rock phase. Kutless is in my list of top 5 fave bands, so I know almost all of their songs by heard. All four bands put on a great show. I got goosebumps when Kutless played one of my all-time fave songs - Sea of Faces. This show was the last stop on the Hearts of the Innocent tour, so all the band members were living it up and having fun. Great to see them all relaxed and enjoying themselves.

After a late night out, I woke up fairly early on Saturday to get ready for paintball. Once again, we had the perfect weather and a nice group of 14. We played three games of Capture the Flag, two games of Protect the Pope and a couple games of Center Flag to finish off the day. Ah, good times.
I ran home for a shower and a quick nap before heading back out again, for yet another concert. This one was a friend of mine, Matthew Joyner, who was playing at a local coffee house. It was definitely in contrast to the loud, high energy concert of the night before, but just what I needed. Matt’s got a new band, Heritage, so it was good to hear the new group and sound, especially since I’ll be working on his website
After the concert, James, Mindy, Loni and I went looking for something else to do. We tried the “cheapy” movie theatre but didn’t see anything of interest. We decided to hit Blockbuster and see what we could find. We ended up with The Grudge, which none of us had seen. I had heard some pretty good reviews of it, though, and wasn’t disappointed. I didn’t think it was great, but better than many horror flicks I’ve seen. Maybe all the gummi bears and gummi worms had something to do with that…

I decided to skip church on Sunday to catch up sleep, after another late night. Arg, I didn’t sleep in as late as I wanted. I’m must be getting old since I can’t sleep in as late I as I want anymore. Anyway…I got several things on my to-do list accomplished during the afternoon before heading out again. I was supposed to play tennis with some friends, but since it was raining, we decided to head down to Newport on the Levee to catch a movie instead. We saw Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Not as good as the first one, but it had it’s moments. Afterwards, we had dinner at Johnny Rockets.
Then I went home. I can’t remember what I did during the couple hours that remained of the weekend, but it was good to have a little down time.
Whew, what a weekend! I’m ready for another one already!

Emily and I saw The Grudge in the theatre and thought it was pretty terrible. highly predictable and not scary or thought provoking at all. Oh well, to each his/her own!

God be praised for the weekend indeed. It’s always good to have a day or two for friends, and basic running about. It was awesome seeing ya last week dude. Are you going to hang at the grill-out thing on Sunday? Hope to see you there. Have a cool work week (what’s left at least)

Yep, I’ll be at the grill out on Sunday. Looking forward to it. Wow, I’m in James withdrawal - from three days in a row to nothing. Can’t…go…on…
