Shutting Down
Hey folks, I’m sorry to say that I’m shutting down this website temporarily.
Yup, you read that right.
With all the spam inundating the site, and with several other things related to the site that just aren’t working like they should, I’ve gotten fed up with it all. There too many other things that I should be focusing on and getting done right now to be spending all my time dealing with the site.
So…I’m going to take a much need step back from the website and deal with more important matters, like training for the 5K, trip planning, reading, home improvement, etc. Then, when I’ve got the time, I’m going to completely redo the site - from the ground up. There’s way too much fat on the site as it exists now, from the spam to the butchered themes, and it’s just plain cumbersome to make changes and such. Hopefully things will be lean and mean and easier to modify and deal with when I take a mulligan. All the old posts and comments and shouts will return, but everything else will be fresh and new, shiny and smooth like a baby’s bottom. Until the spammers hit again…confound them!
But don’t worry, loyal readers, I’m not completely disappearing off the map. I’ll still have a voice, though it will be coming from elsewhere. While this site is down, you’ll find me at kyblogger.wordpress.com. Should I have something to say, this is where I’ll do it, until kyblogger.com gets back on it’s feet. kyblogger.com will automatically redirect you to my new space on the web, effective almost immediately. Readers who use bloglines will need to subscribe to the feed at kyblogger.wordpress.com
Thanks for your patience, everyone, and I hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Sorry you had to go to the extremes of shutting your site down for a while. I’ve had a lot of success so far with Spam Karma 2. Hopefully, it will be the resolution to all my spam problems. I feel for ya, though. I was pretty tempted to do the same thing before I switched hosting companies. And while the spam has gotten worse, at least I can moderate it. Hope to see you back on the web soon!

Akismet and the other spam blockers worked successfully for me as far as preventing spam comments from actually making it to the website where people could see it. However, the spam was still affecting the site in the background, filling up the moderation queue and hammering the database. And that’s not mentioning the spam issues with the shoutbox…
Oh well, it feels good to not deal with it for the time being, though I’ve put some time into getting the site back up. Nothing like starting fresh, with a clean slate. I’m not in a hurry, so it’ll go live in due time.

boooooo caving into spammers! as they say in Galaxy Quest– “Never give up! Never Surrender!â€
Just kidding. The way bluehost throttles CPU time per server, it could def. have impacted your site. You’re going to have a lot of free time now!

I love that it’s called spam. Always makes me think of Monty Python: “Spam, spam, spam, spam…â€

No matter what it’s called, I hate it with a passion!
