5K Update

Here’s another update on my 5K training

My past two runs I’ve done approx one mile, which is great for me! Last Thursday, I ran for 9.5 minutes without stopping, for a distance of one mile. Today, I ran 7.5 minutes, walked for two, then ran for another two but ran for total of a little over a mile. I’m slowly working my way up to that 5K.

Today, Carrie and I also went shopping for some running shoes. Yes, some “real” running shoes. I think my $20 pair of off-brand shoes from Meijer just weren’t cutting it anymore. So, we hit the road for Fleet Feet in Blue Ash. Nice store and the people were really helpful. They measured my feet then watched me walk and run before recommending several different brands of shoes, all of the “neutral” type. After trying on each pair and taking a short run to “test drive” in each, I ultimately decided on a pair of ASICS Gel Landreth II. Much better feeling than my cheap pair!

Two weeks until race day! My goal is to be at two miles by next Sunday. Wish me luck! Thanks to Carrie for her support, tips and willingness to do the race with me! After hanging out and talking with her today, there may be a triathlon in my future…

  1. hah, well i very much doubt what kind of tennis shoes you wear will matter…

  2. Actually, your wrong Bryan. Shoes can make a HUGE difference. If you don’t have good shoes that support your arch and have good padding, you can have serious back pain and shin splints.

  3. Yes, shoes make a huge difference. And I didn’t get tennis shoes - I got running shoes. There is a difference there as well.

  4. If Bryan only knew what a difference shoes make in various activities…..wait that would mean he would have to get out and be doing something besides the computer or video games.

  5. don’t you mean, ‘you’re wrong, Bryan’, Jez?

at least use proper english if you’re going to get smart with me.. i don’t even know who you are!..

oh, but Chris, I do see your point… good, good…

and david, ah, well i’m just going to ignore your comment ;-)

think i’ll stop coming here.. can’t say one little thing without getting hounded.. just not right i tell you…

    later…

  6. You are correct Bryan, but I wasn’t getting smart with you. I was just speaking from experience. However, if you are going to critique my grammar, at least use proper punctuation, capitalization, and complete sentences. With that being said, I’m not going to start an argument on Chris’ website. That has been done before, and it wasn’t pretty.
