Purple People Bridge Climb

This has my name written all over it:

Purple People Bridge Climb

Adventurers of all ages, prepare to go over the top! The Purple People Bridge Cl!mb, the first of its kind in the United States and the northern hemisphere, opens right here in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area this spring.

Rivaled only by attractions in Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand, the Purple People Bridge Cl!mb spans the Ohio River, giving locals and visitors alike a bird’s eye view of the Northern Kentucky and downtown Cincinnati areas – all from nearly 150 feet in the air.

The Purple People Bridge Cl!mb is for the young, old and everyone in between. Starting at the foot of the Purple People Bridge at Newport on the Levee, climbers will embark upon a unique journey that takes them up among the upper trestles of the bridge’s five spans. At the apex of the bridge, climbers walk out onto a glass floor suspended directly over the Ohio River. Climbers also will be taken on a path underneath the bridge near the Ohio side to get a close-up look at its architecture.

Bridge Climb

I think I’m gonna do the Code Name Purple Cl!mb:

Each climber receives a spy kit. Smoke spews as Mr. Phelps, (the climb leader) dressed in trench coat, arrives. Music plays ominously drowning out the chatter. A tape recorder plays the assignment. When the tape destructs in a cloud of smoke, teams set off to the climb. Searching for clues along the climb regarding buildings, area history, the river and more, the climbers will relay their findings to the climb Leader. Climbers will complete their mission by reaching the end of the bridge and successfully accomplishing their tasks.

Who wants to join me?!?

You know, it’s ideas like this, the “out-of-the-box, what-can-we-do-that-no-one-else-in-the-area-is-doing” that makes me proud to live in Northern KY (and not across the river in Ohio *shudder*) ;-)

  1. That looks interesting, I’ll have to check with the Commander/CFO and see if I could do it.

  2. I saw this a while back when they were first planning it. I believe the guy who came up with the idea (for THIS bridge…there are others across the country) is some sort of amusement park/roller coaster tycoon. I think I’d be up for it, but $60 seems a little steep. Let me know when you plan on doing it, I may join you.

  3. it looks scary!! but i would probably do it. my friend jp is gonna be one of the climb leaders. that’s a pretty cool job!

  4. The website says this is “the first of its kind in the United States and the northern hemisphere.” You say there are others throughout the country, Jeremy? I wonder in what ways they differ so the PPBC can claim to be the first in the Northern Hemisphere…

The themed packages are more than $60, probably $80 and up, but if others want to go, I’ll forego my spy expedition and stick with the cheaper climb. It opens in 7 days, so any time after that I’m game. We should at least go down there and watch a climb and see if it’s really worth the cost.

  5. Ah, well I was going off of my memory. I stand corrected. I think the article I read mentioned others, and I just assumed they were in the US. You know what they say, “when you assume….”.

  6. um, i thought this whole thing was a gag when i first heard about it. then i thought you were joking about the whole spy thingy. it’s cool that they are doing something different, though. $60 is alittle outa my range, though. you go and have fun. tell me what it’s like to hock a loogie into the river from 150 feet. i’ve just done it offa the bridge.

  7. i just realized that last comment doesn’t identify me, so if you couldn’t figure it out this is nick… not some crazy person that decided to comment on your site… well, a crazy person i am, but at least i’m a crazy person you know and not some stranger! :-)

  8. Lol, how can anyone not know that was you Nick? :-) I also saw your choice of fruit on the poll. Classic Nick!

  9. Sounds fun… Let me know when you plan on going.
