Visit to the Doctor

9

It takes something pretty serious to get me to the doctor. I don’t know why I have this mindset, but I dislike taking medicine, even ibuprofen or aspirin for headaches, and I tend to put off visits to the doctor. I guess I figure my body can heal itself on it’s own given the time. That means I suffer for a while, as I’ve done over the past two weeks. I thought I had conquered it, but the cough and overall sick feeling has come back lately.

There’s a new element as well… Several times over the past week, I’ve awakened in the middle of the night gasping for breath. I’ll regain it after a few seconds, but that’s still a scary experience. After that happened 3-4 nights, I decided it was probably something I should get checked out. Yeah, that’s what it took to get me to the doctor.

So I called for and got an appointment with the doctor today. The verdict? Bronchitis, slight fever and allergies causing congestion and drainage that caused the problems at night. Stupid bronchitis! I end up with that about once a year. Of course, I figured that’s what I had when my cough lasted more than a week, but I tried to pretend otherwise.

One of these days I’ll learn to get to the doctor sooner…

Well one of these days (like when I’m 18 and out of the house) I’m going to stop GOING to doctors and getting vaccines.

I really don’t care about my health or how long I live (yea, and I mean that.) And I’m not trying to sound all ‘radical’ or anything. It’s just if something fatal was wrong with me, I’d rather live a short, happy life, dying in my own bed with my comforts around. Rather than living a long, miserable, hindered, drugged up life, dying in some steril hospital room in a ‘paper dress thing’ while doctors pump God knows what into my veins.

Well, that’s not to say I wouldn’t try some kind of treatment. Alternative medacine holds more light than is percieved. And I believe that spirtuality has more jurisdiction over ones health than is thought.

And, also, I’d rather not entrust my heath to some guy (a doctor) that’s been bought off for a six dollar lunch by some slick drug co. rep. Think about it, the last virus that was eraticated was Polio way back in the early 1900s. (the last disease would be small pox, back in 1796 I believe.) They eraticated polio and small pox with primitive knowledge and tools in only a few years. Yet, now, in the in the ‘technoligical’ and ‘information’ age, we can’t seem to make a single promising step foward for Aids, Cancer, TB, etc. We’ve had ‘walks’ and fundraisers for how many decades now?–donated how many BILLIONS of dollars. And exactly how far have we come? Not far I’d say. Those people are still living in misery, with their illnesses. But did the people who concauted the small pox and polio vaccines have billions of dollars and sophisticated technology and decades of time to do research? NO!

Why is this you ask? Simple. Why would the drug companies, one of the most profitable industries in the world (right up there with oil) want to EVER eraticate a disease? They get so much money from all the drugs prescribed that people must take for the rest of their lives. Sound goofy, don’t believe me? Well ask yourself why the oil industry is attempting to suppress alternative fuel and power sources? And why did they make record breaking profits this year? Pharmaceutical compaines are no different.

Mainstream medacine is also so ignorant as to NOT recongnize Morgellons as a real disease, and simply pass it off as ‘delusional parasitosis’. Hmm, I’d like them to tell me how a three year old has hallucinations and a psychotic disorder. Mainstream medacine will also ADMIT that acupuncture WORKS, but they have no idea how… Maybe if they looked at things from a spiritual perspective, they would understand.

Western medacine likes to call alternative medacine a ‘pseudo-science’. Um, I believe a treatment that is barbaric and fringe would be that of having cancer patients put through horrindous amounts of chemotherapy and radiation. Bringing them within an inch of life, puking their guts out (sometimes literally), while having a preppy doctor standing beyond the door of a vomiting patient gloating ‘ah, yes, just look at our sophisticated and advanced practices, nurse.’ Sophisticated? Advanced? What a crock. And, yes, there have been tons of recored miracles and oriental practices that have eraticated cancer, STDS, orthopedic disorders, and even alledgidly AIDS. No surgery or drugs included. But you don’t hear about those things from your doctor or media.

I for one don’t believe in the fields of science of Chemistry and Microbiology. To tell me that you can look through a microscope and comprehend meitoses and meioses and cell division? Yea, whatever. I for one don’t belive in meioses or meitoses. Chemists and microbiologists live in a fairy tail world and it’s costing lives (both human and animal)

Your body is an organic entity, and thus can and should be treated with organic methods. And why would religious people, including Christians, intrust their health to a bunch of people who’s majority are Athiests or Agnostics? Why in the world would you ever assume those people know what in the world they’re talking about?

Wow, that was long. But just take a closer look into alternative medacine and sincere prayer for treatments. And perhaps you don’t buy all the logic I’ve stated above–but at least be cautious when dealing with the medical community. Doctors don’t know everything (though they think they do, adn they’re obviously very closed minded). And I’ll admit, neither do followers of alternative medacine have all the answers. There are two sides to every story–just remember that, EVERYONE!

here are some sources–ask for more if you want.

(eh, sorry for such a long comment, but when it comes to medical issues, I have quite a bit so say–and quite a bit of personal experience with it.)

I haven’t been to the doctor since 1998…and that was just to update my shot record and get an MMR shot. Other than that, its probably been close to 10 years.

    Yuck..Get Well Soon!!

I think the majority of us try to avoid going to the doctor especially for a cold or allergy related event. I know I do though after going last year and finding out that I had strep and looking at the symptoms thinking how many other times have I had strep and never gone to the doctor. Hmmmmm The main reason I went that time is because I was determined to spend Thanksgiving at home and see my new 2nd Cousin, whom I didn’t get to see Labor Day weekend because I was sick.

Just don’t avoid the doctor for other non cold/allergy related pains or issues. They can lead to bigger problems and we don’t want that.

Well, I for one am offended. I’m sure you don’t know this Bryan, but I am a type I diabetic and have been for 18 years now. If it weren’t for insulin, I would die. It’s pretty easy for you to say that you would rather die than take medicine for life when you don’t have to! One thing that really ticks me off is when I see diabetics not taking care of themselves. What do you say to a child or other family member after a parent or loved one dies because they refused treatment? Oh, they loved you…but not enough to take care of themselves so they could spend time with you. Seems pretty selfish when you put it that way, huh?

By the way, check out the research done with adult stem cells. They are used to treat over 60 different diseases…and yes, they found those through a microscope. Go to JDRF.org and look at how close they are to discovering a cure for autoimmune diseases, such as diabetes. If you say there haven’t been any breakthroughs in medicine, then you haven’t done any research on the subject (and no, I don’t consider going to answers.com research). I, for one, spend many hours every week following the latest breakthroughs in science because it could mean a cure for me.

Also, you said that the money spent in medical research is waisted and not a single step has been made? How about going from 6+ injections a day and having to avoid eating sugar, to wearing an insulin pump and eating what I want when I want it? I would say that is a big step (before you say anything, it’s not just the technology…it’s also the different type of insulin being used). I won’t even go into detail about my friend from high-school who had chemo (and is alive and well), my brother who had radiation treatment (still fine), or the many other people I know who have had diseases that require the treatment you are calling crap. You want to see a list of people cured with adult stem cells? Please, look through it…no promising steps forward, huh?

Bryan, that seriously is one of the most moronic things I have ever read. So chemistry is a joke … yet you believe those fields brought about a cure to polio, etc?
Do you have virus protection on your computer? What about anti-spyware software? Do you wear your seat belt when you drive? If you owned a motorcycle, would you pull a Steeler and ride with out a helmet?
Not taking vaccinations and antibiotics is damn stupid. I don’t care if you want to screw up your own life, but what about others that want to live? Those others with immune defficiancy issues who can’t easily fight off diseases? If you are a carrier, you could very well kill a person just by talking to them.
    Get real.

    jerry! jerry! jerry…

oops, thought i was on the springer show there for a second. sorry to hear about the bronchitis. i am not a big fan of going to the doctor either, but that’s just because i’m lazy and cheap. i gotta side with the majority here and say that doctors and modern medicine are good and necessary, but since that’s not really the issue you posted about i’ll stop there. kinda weird on how you can post about one thing and inadvertently start a crap storm over a slightly related, but altogether different topic. well done. get better!

  7. David says:

Sorry to hear that you are sick there Chris. Hope you get feelign better before this weekend. And Bryan, you have nerve, a lot of it to say what you just said. I hear people saying that all the time on the news and such, and you know what they just don’t understand a lot of what goes into research. I had earlier typed a nice long reply, but thought I would just kind of leave it be since this is not the forum for what you are trying to do. But let me say thanks for the “support” in my career decision as a cancer researcher, and I guess since you have all the answers as a high schooler I should come to you for planning my thesis disertation. Obviously I’m wasting my time here at Vanderbilt in more ways than one according to you. But alass I need to get back to work in understanding the dynamics of cancer biology, oh yeah that’s right Bryan we work weekends and late nights….for less than you could make at McDonalds…but it’s such a big business. sigh.
