Fat Cat
The first thing anyone says when they come over is how BIG Smokey is. I don’t think he’s really that big, and by big, I’m assuming people mean fat. Maybe it’s because I see him every day and don’t notice his changing weight.
I noticed it this past Saturday, though.
I took Smokey to the vet for his annual checkup. Last year, he weighed 13lbs. The vet made a comment then that he was a little pudgy, but was wearing the weight pretty well. Since then, I’ve developed a feeding routine and maintain a consistent feeding amount. I feed him one cup a day of Iams Weight Control, spread out over three feedings. Those of you how have met him know he’s active, loving to play with his toys and such. Surely he wouldn’t have gained much, if any weight, in the past year.
Wrong! He’s up to 15.9 lbs now. Geesh… Guess I should cut back to 3/4 of a cup now.
Wonder if he’ll go running with me…

So! I see how it is. Expect yer poor kitty to conform to some HOLLYWOOD image of thin. Why not let him be the cat HE wants to be. As long as he is a happy cat he is a healthy cat. I happen to like my cat with a few extra pounds. Admittedly my in-laws cat can push the recliner over with me sitting in it, but that’s another story. leave the poor fella be. Or get him some catnip to hype him up on occasion for an extra work out. They do call it kitty coke ya know and I have NEVER seen a fat coke addict.

Hahaha, you crazy kids.
All Muffin’s been wanting to do latly is eat. That’s all. And constantly. She used to just meow for food when she knew it was time. But now it’s… you know.. whenever were’re in the garage.
She kind of looks like she’s put on a pound or so over this fall and winter.
I prefer dogs. Take Jez’s comment into consideration heh… Maybe get a big, energetic, licks your face ever other second, Border Collie, eh?

Lol, fat coke addict
Smokey has some catnip mice, but they’re old, so I don’t know if the catnip is really that potent anymore… He’s no where near as fat as my parents’ cat, another reason I didn’t see his weight as a problem initially. My big concern is his health. I don’t want his over health and lifespan to be affected by the weight.

While the doctor seems to have confirmed my reaction when I saw Smokey awhile ago, I have to say I am just used to small cats. I even give Karen a hard time about Panda getting big (partly because she calls my dog ugly!) and Karen complains that she’s too small!!!! But like I said I’m used to seeing outdoor cats that have to catch their own food to survive. And my own cat was just naturally a small cat, not necessarily skinny, but small.
Just in case you ever change your mind about dogs you’d be more than welcome to come and borrow Zeke. He would love to go running! He has plenty of energy that I can never seem to get all out of him.
