We Are Kentucky
Um, what’s wrong with UK all of a sudden…
First, the coach leaves for a “lesser” school. UK coaches don’t leave for schools the likes of Minnesota. That’s not an option. The only options are retirement or the NBA. Minnesota?!? No, no, no. Are you nuts?
Second, a coach turns down a boatload of money to stay at a non-basketball school instead of coming to UK. Kentucky is one of the dream jobs in college basketball. Coaches aspire to coach in the glory and tradition that is UK. To have money thrown at you, as Billy Donovan did, and then to turn down the offer to stay at a school where basketball will never be number one and four of your starters are leaving for the NBA…that’s just not right.
It is close to April 1st still…maybe that’s reasoning behind this. That’s the only sense I can make of it. Any planets or stars out of alignment?
No Pitino, no Donovan…is there any one else that will make us spoiled UK fans happy and live up to our expectations? I can tell you that’s already one strike from the fans against the next coach – he will be “Plan B.” It will take a while for the coach to overcome that, prove himself worthy of UK of the intense expectations of the fans. If he’s not winning championships in two years, we’ll be calling for head’s to roll.
And that’s just steps away from the coach buckling and leaving for Minnesota or Marist or Prairie View.
And then the riots will start in the streets of Lexington.

dang it! i was really hoping for billy d. i think everyone pretty much was. i know they’ll find somebody, but they’re gonna have a hard time pleasing the fans now.

Well, it’s Billy Gillispie. I didn’t really want him to come to UK, but after pausing a moment and looking over his coaching resume I think he can do a good job here.
arg! who the frick is billy gillispie? i hate to be one of those bull-headed uk fans that comes down on the coach unfairly, but i wanted billy donovan or at least travis ford. he better impress me and quick!
In all fairness, he has done a great job in coming into tough situations and doing a good job very quickly. He is supposedly a workaholic when it comes to coaching, and is supposed to be a great recruiter. I agree, I wanted Billy D or Ford…but once I looked into his history in coaching I think he will do a good job.
Hmm, I don’t know much about Gillespie, but is he UK material, as far as his personality? Then again, was Tubby? Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out. At least we have coach now, so the recruiting can continue…
