Sinking Ship - Still?

A little over a year ago, I wrote about my company and how many of the upper management were leaving. Things cooled off later that summer, but now it’s happening again. The manager of my department, who has been there almost 10 years, is leaving at the end of the month. The head of project management left this past week. The CFO is also leaving at the end of the month. Several other co-workers are heading out the door, too.

Once again, I’m concerned with the direction the company is taking. Many of these people are leaving for a competitor. They’re being wooed by the money and supposedly a better environment. Fine, I can buy that. My concern, though, is how the leadership of the company is handling this. Namely, I want to know what is being done to try to keep this talent from leaving. As far as I’m aware, nothing at all is being done. The senior VP who is in charge of my “branch” of the company is simply letting them walk, or, if he is trying to keep them, isn’t coming close to matching the offers. Bigger than that, maybe some of these people know something I don’t or are so disgruntled that it doesn’t matter what is being offered to them to stay.

You can replace a person but you cannot replace the experience. Letting someone who has been with the company 10yrs walk is really going to hurt us. What’s more is that the type of people who are being wooed away are the ones who can actually do their job and do it well. The type of people that are leaving are quality. Who does that leave behind…?

I like my job, especially my new responsibilities. I like my co-workers, my hours, my workload, the location. But when do I need to put this aside and think about the future? When is it time that I at least consider other employment?

  1. i say as long as you are happy and financially stable, why put yourself through the stress of looking for a new job. when the time comes… you’ll know.

  2. Don’t stress too much about it maybe God is opening doors for you to get another promotion. And if you get those promotions to upper management, even if the company sells out that experience will help you find another job.

  3. I think you should just be grateful you have a job.

  4. The chairman of my company sold 100,000 shares of stock today…Hmm…

  5. Dude, that’s pretty wild!

    Got an updated resume?

  6. Yep, methinks I’d be looking into other openings. Want me to go through Kroger’s job openings and see what’s available?

  7. Well, this situation isn’t getting any better… Two more of my colleagues (though not upper management) are leaving in the next month, two more have applied elsewhere are have had at least one interview and another is pregnant and probably not going to return after her maternity leave…

  8. The good news at least is that the company sponsored and paid for family picnic at King’s Island is next week. Woot!

  9. Imagines you and 3 other people staring at 500 hamburgers and hot dogs holding stacks of raffle tickets.

    :-)

  10. ROFL :-)
