Roundabout

For those of you who will be around NKU this summer and haven’t heard, Nunn Drive and a portion of University Drive will be closed to ALL traffic for construction. The closings will start May 21 and supposedly last until mid-August. If they miss the deadline by even a week, it’s going to cause some major headaches by running into the start of the fall semester.

I’ve heard that they’re going to make that intersection, the main one into the campus, into a roundabout to help facilitate the increased traffic flow when new The Bank of Kentucky Center has events, as well as ease the traffic burden that already exists when classes let out.

A roundabout on a college campus?!? That’s just asking for confusion and accidents to happen! I work right off campus (off University Drive), so I’ll have a front row seat for all the action, and hopefully not long delays and traffic jams…

  1. I like roundabouts. We had them all over the place in Spain (on and off base) and had some in the St. Louis area. They work well, but I guess many American’s have never really seen/used one.

  2. Yep, I agree…roundabouts work well. Although, I still can’t see a roundabout without thinking about the scene from National Lampoon’s European Vacation. “Hey look kids, there’s Big Ben, and there’s Parliament.”

  3. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I think a roundabout would be great there. That would give me a few extra minutes during lunch since I wouldn’t have to wait at the traffic light. :-) But can you see college students, who are usually running late or who may be drunk, successfully navigating it?

  4. Is Northern thrying to be like the great University of the Cumberlands? I know they have added at least two in the last year!

  5. [...] couple months ago, I mentioned the state was building a roundabout at the main entrance of NKU. It finally opened today. No more taking back roads on lunch breaks…at least for now. [...]
