School Days
Finally, I had a chance to take a road trip! I took a drive up to Bloomington, IN on Memorial Day to visit a friend from college. Though it was overcast and drizzled some in the morning, the day shaped up to be quite nice, an excellent day for a road trip.
Having never been to Bloomington, I thought was immediately south of Indy, right off the interstate and IU would be like UK as far as being in “bigger” city. Instead, it seemed like it was out in the middle of nowhere since it was about 30 miles off the interstate with lots of cabins, fields, barns, etc. along the route I took.
Once in Bloomington, though, I was surprised with how nice IU’s campus was (and I feel dirty saying that - Go Big Blue!!!). The campus had a lot of trees and greenery, and even a creek (called the Jordon River) through the middle of campus. It was definitely a contrast to the all concrete NKU and much, much bigger than Georgetown.
It was awesome being on a college campus again and at least momentarily I was reliving my college days and soaking it all in. There’s just something about that atmosphere that I really love. Sadly, those days are long gone and no matter how much I would like to relive and experience them again, I know I can’t. Even going to grad school wouldn’t be the same, since I’m at a difference place in life now, with a job, more responsibilities, etc. - not the careful days of undergrad life.
Speaking of grad school…one purpose of the trip was to talk with my friend about it, since she’s in grad school there at IU. I definitely think it’s a good option for me to pursue, and I’m going for it. If things work out like I’m expecting (namely that I’m accepted, which I hope won’t be a problem!), then I’ll start in fall of 2008. As to where and what program I’ll be pursuing, those are still up in the air, though I do have several options in mind already. More on that and an update on my “Decisions” post in the near future.

Why do you think I love my job so much?? I get to be on campus all the time!! Grad. school is wonderful, but it is tough if you are working full-time and you want any kind of social life…but you do get to meet new people. It is very defferent form undergrad. though. For me, it is a lot more research.

I thought about grad school, but I don’t see much of a benefit for me to go through it right now. My boss thinks I’m a good candidate for management, so if I start moving up the ranks I may choose to go back.
So what programs are you thinking about? Business Admin? IS?

Yeah, I’m thinking about Business Admin, IS and Informatics. Schools have different programs, though, so I might find something else that’s more along the lines of exactly what (I think) I want. I’m looking for something that deals with Business and Management, as well as computers and the Internet, but not a lot of programming. I’m kinda excited about UNC - their MBA program includes economics classes, which several others that I’ve looked into don’t; plus, it’s in an area of the country I’m interested in possibly living in.

If you move to North Carolina, you better make sure you have a nice guest bedroom because we’ll be coming to visit…a lot

No way, Jose, no chance I’ll be at Duke
Yeah, I do kinda feel like a traitor, but unlike some people, I’ll won’t cave and start wearing their colors. UK Blue all the way!

Chapel Hill??!! They have a good research program but didn’t know about other things. Hmm. You could always go to Vandy’s MBA program, it’s a good program and a nice place to live. You know you like those Dores too. Speaking of Nashville, Hawknelson is playing this weekend before the local minor league baseball game. One of the perks you get down here in Nashville.

UNC has a good MBA program. I’ll add Vandy to my list to check out.
I hope an awesome band is playing when I’m down there! Doesn’t look like it, though. NashVegas does get concert stops, and random concerts, for just about everyone…unlike Cincy…

IU has a good business program as well. It isn’t cheap, granted most of them aren’t at least when I was looking a few years back. Plus there are lots of great musical acts that come to town and neighboring Nashville. I hear they are good at least. I am not musically inclined like most so I really cant vouch for it.

Agree, I don’t think I could go to Duke, either.
Unlike some people…who might you be referring to.
So I have a few IU shirts and paraphernalia around. There is still lots of UK Blue around and when I can get away with wearing it I do. It was UK Blue the entire week leading up to the UK/IU basketball game. I am surprised that I did not get shot down.
