Jeep
Any Jeep Wrangler owners or ex-owners out there? Lately, I’ve been thinking about getting a new vehicle, and considering I’ve been wanting one for several years now, Jeeps have been on my mind. I know it’s not your normal vehicle, so I’m a little wary about getting one. I’m trying to find some place where I can rent one for several days and give it a good test drive. I’m not sure this will be feasible, though, so I’m wondering if anyone has any feedback on them, and for those that know me, if I would like it. I know it lacks the “comforts” of normal cars, can be a noisy ride and doesn’t have the best MPG, but it just looks like so much fun…

I will be SO SO SO jealous if you get one. You can rent one as part of the Hertz Fun Collection. The new model Jeeps are really nice, especially if you get the special hard top option. The new Jeep only comes with one engine, which is great since they dumped the under powered 4 cyl. I really like the Unlimited four door Rubicon model.
One thing that is great about them is they retain their value over the long term.
I know a couple of people who own them an love them.

I’ve never been a huge Jeep fan. Also remember…you’re gonna have this car for a few years. You gotta plan for the future

Thanks for the tip about Hertz, Paul. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find one in the area that rents Jeeps. I’m gonna keep looking. I’ve emailed some dealerships, but no response yet…
I’ll worry about the future if/when it’s an issue
Besides, as Paul said, they retain their value pretty well, so it wouldn’t be horrible to sell it. As for now, may as well have a little fun.

Grr…still no luck finding some place that rents out Jeeps. Can’t find a rental place in this area that offers them.

Mines not a Wrangler (dang it!) but it is a Jeep and I love it!
I have riden in a few and driven a few. They are fun to drive and even ride in, but you have to like a relatively rough and noisy ride. It’s silly but, just like the stickers you see on them; “It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand!”
Like Paul if you get one I would be jealous, I’ve always wanted an “old” one more like a CJ over a wrangler just to build for off road use. Both have an abundance of aftermarket parts….

I’ll second Jez’s comment. Have you had a truck or any type of automobile that is off the ground like a jeep? I don’t know that I will ever be able to drive another automobile that is that high off the ground. Don’t forget about what it will be like in the winter too? Just a few things to think about.

Yeah, I’ve thought about all that, which is one reason why I want to test drive one for a few days…

anything new on this?

Never did find anywhere that I could test drive one…I think I’m going to have to put this on hold until I figure out grad school finances anyway, so I guess it’s for the best. I was down at Red River Gorge today, and it made me wish I had one…

seems like all who reply don’t have jeeps
I have 2 a 94 and an 89. It is a jeep thing. for winter get a hard top but get a bikini top for summer. same Jeep just different tops Jeeps are very versitle. yes they are noisey. once you get a jeep there is no turning back but, if for some reason you don’t like it they are usually not hard to sell.
Good luck and happy jeepin’

Hi Mike. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment and tips. Still trying to find one to test drive for a few days. Gonna have to work with some dealerships…
