Home Automation
Any one have experience with home automation, such as the X10 protocol? I’ve been thinking about getting my feet wet with some home automation projects this summer. Nothing major, just exploring the possibilities and doing a minor project or two. It’s a dream of mine to one day have a state-of-the-art, high-tech, automated…log cabin.
Gotta start somewhere, so why not play some now…

I used some X10 outlet modules back in 2000/2001 in a house that my brother and I rented. Nothing major. It used the serial port on my PC and I had a remote control so i could turn lights on and off in other rooms (or anything else plugged into those modules).
I may have a bunch of those outlet modules still in a bad in my basement. If I do, you are welcome to them. I imagine they would still be supported by the more modern stuff.
I’d like to get some X10 stuff going again in my new house.

I guess you didn’t have any problems with the technology back then? I can imagine it’s only gotten better since, and even more web based.

Never have but it sounds awesome. Let me know how much it ends up costing and what cool projects you have in mind.

If you decide to dive in, let me know how it goes. Like I said the other day, I really want to do this too.
