No other sit-com has tugged on my heart strings more than Mad About You. I still remember the first time I saw The Finale, the three part ending of season 4, when the Buchman’s were going through a really rough time in their marriage and we all wondered if they would stay together. That was a tough stretch to watch, and though they brought it on themselves by making bad decisions, I was still rooting for everything to work out and for them to live happily ever after (I say it like that were real people). There’s also an episode in season one, Met Someone, which was about how Paul and Jamie met. This was another episode that warmed my heart (I’m such a sap). I really can’t wait until I experience these emotions, both the good and bad, in the context of finding, dating and marrying that special person. Over the past year, I’ve gone from wanting that fairy tale, storybook, “perfect” marriage to really looking forward to experience the highs and lows of a “real” marriage, wanting to work and fight together through the difficult times then share in the enjoyment and pure bliss of making up and the moments of triumph each other’s lives. I’ve come to realize there can’t be all good times in a marriage, no matter how hard the couple tries, and the difficult times are like fertilizer that nourish the relationship and make the good times all that much greater. I’m digressing…

Mad About You is one of my favorite sit-coms, joining the likes of The Cosby Show, Seinfeld and The Office (that I can think of off the top of my head). If you haven’t seen it, catch it in syndication on TV Land or watch seasons 1-3 on DVD. Highly recommended!

Alrighty, the upgrade to Wordpress 2.3 is complete. Didn’t have any problems with the upgrade that I’m aware of, so if you see anything funky, let me know. I did disable all the plugins, so some minor things may still be down. I’m bringing these features back online slowly, but most of the important functions should up back up already.

As you can see, I changed my theme as well. This is still a work in progress, especially the header and the sidebar. I’m still undecided on two or three columns. The old layout was two columns, so I opted for three columns as something different for now. Over the coming days, don’t be surprised if things keep changing on you. :-)

Enough for now, though. I gotta get to bed sometime tonight…

And as a random footnote, and to make sure a plugin is still working, enjoy this little ditty by Ingrid MichaelsonThe Way I Am.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

(Some of you may have heard this song on the Old Navy commercials. She’s got quite a voice!)

I got fed up with the old software I was using for the gallery, so I moved the pics to Picasa and found a plugin to integrate it into the site. Pretty snazzy looking! Check it out

P.S. Let me know if you have any problems with the new gallery. When you click on the thumbnails, they should enlarge on the page itself. It doesn’t work as smoothly in IE as it does in Firefox, but then everyone is using Firefox by now, aren’t they? :-)

For years now, I’ve had a poll, changed weekly or bi-weekly, in the side bar. There have been 125 so far…and I’m out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Here are some blog stats for 2006:

  • I wrote 270 posts, down significantly from 479 in 2005 and 378 in 2004.
  • There were 861 comments posted, down significantly from 1478 in 2005 and 1942 in 2004.
  • The average post length was 1370 characters, up from a 1235 character average in 2005 and 883 in 2004.
  • Total post length was 369942 characters, down from 591062 characters in 2005 and 333824 in 2004.

Wow, the number of posts was really down this year. I know I took some breaks throughout the year, and had some website issues, but didn’t think the number would be that low. However, when looking at the average post length stat, I realize that I’ve written more in the entries I have posted. That makes me feel better. Like I set out to do a while ago, I wanted to write more personal and meaningful posts, and it seems that I have this year.

Here’s to another great year!

Holy Milestone, Batman!

Hard to believe, but this is the one thousandth post on Digital Wilderness, for a total of 155,028 words in approximately 850 days. Two years and 4 months have gone by since that first post and the site is still alive and kickin’, though it’s undergone several changes since the beginning. A new webhost (moved from 1and1 to Pair to Bluehost), new blogging software (from Movable Type to WordPress) and countless designs/themes.

Some of the most popular posts (based on number of comments) during this period include:

The top commenters are:

  • Bryan (356 comments)
  • Paul C. (302 comments)
  • Jeremy (300 comments)
  • Robin (275 comments)
  • Ashlee (265 comments)
  • Jeff (265 comments)

Thanks to these and all my other readers!

Here’s to 1000 more!

Cheers
